80 years ago, a few months after the referendum that marked the birth of the Republic, the International Conference on Social Work was held in Tremezzo; considered as a defining moment for the social policies of the following decades and for the emerging profession of social work.
At the conference entitled “From Tremezzo to the Future: 80 Years of the Republic and the Welfare State – Rights, Policies and the Local Area”, to be held on 30 and 31 October 2026, we aim to weave a thread linking the past, present and future, reflecting on how history has shown us the most appropriate path for social policy.
The 1946 conference was held at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. We intend to hold the two-day event in 2026 at the same hotel, with Friday 30th dedicated to a day of seminars and in-depth discussions led by experts, and the closing morning of Saturday 31 October devoted to institutional speeches.
For Saturday 31st, we have requested participation in the EU initiatives of European Week of Regions and Cities (EURegionsWeek), organised by the European Committee of the Regions and the European Commission in Brussels
The Executive Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Skills, Education, Culture, Labour and Social Rights, Roxana Minzatu, has been invited.
